Tony Reynaldo: The Man of Ideas

After the Outdoor Retailer show in 2013, I was asked by the Mad Rock owner and staff to join them at the HQ in sunny California for a few weeks to work on a new shoe design, learn about the company firsthand and also to climb. I began work on a future shoe design and met with the owner Young Chu a couple of times learning from his years of experience and mastery of the craft. I wish I could show you the new shoe but its got to be kept under wraps for now. But fret not Mad Rock fans, its in the mix and coming soon!

Cutting straight to the point. The new M5 (5th generation Mugen) has become my go to shoe. I have been using it for about six months and the performance is excellent on a variety of angles both indoors and out. It kicked butt at the New River Gorge this fall on the more technical faces and footwork intensive routes that area affords.

And yes, that is me sleeping in my van rocketbox in West Virginia. My climbing partners crashed in the cabin below so I climbed up top for a rather luxurious nights sleep. Trust me it gets laughs at the Wal Mart but pragmatics comes first before style!

I got the honor to spend a few days climbing with Tiffany Hensley while I was in California doing design work. She came along with us to California after the show and we went to sample some So-Cal granite bouldering. A great day pebble wrestling with some awesome people. That is what climbing is all about.

Someone must have over-judged the curb a bit by this frozen yogurt place we stopped at (probably someone texting while parking) so I posed for this Hollywood type shot.
