Remora: Pro Athlete Review

These high quality performance slippers not only fit like a glove, they feel comfortable enough to wear into bed. Slip them on and you’ll notice that while it’s remarkably easy to get your feet in and out of them, the heel still fits snug on the foot. With just enough elastic on the tongue to keep the shoe secure you can feel confident trusting these shoes to preform well on tough heel hooks. Straight from the box the Remora is ready to wear requiring little to no break in period. Remora sizing runs true to other Mad Rock Shoes in terms of fit however, if it’s a super snug fit you’re after, go down one half size.

A comfortable, soft and sensitive shoe, the Remora excels on low angle slabs and vertical terrain. With ample flexibility and copious amounts of rubber on the toe box it performs surprisingly well on toe hooks through steep terrain. Take the Remora for a spin on a problem requiring a bat hang and you’ll feel like you could hang all day since the extra toe rubber cushion discourages the development of toe strain. You can chalk off the comfort these guys provide on technical terrain to Mad Rocks use of SynFlex materials which create a consistent and precise fit.

A shoe to Remember

Without a doubt the Remora is an excellent choice for beginner to intermediate climbers looking for a high performance, quality shoe with the most up to date fit and technology. At first glance the Remora appears best suited for the Stone Masters of old, yet with updated features and long lasting fit the Remora is more aptly dubbed a modern day classic. You can take them along for a reliable partner on any climbing trip, yet they truly find their stride on multi pitch slab or long days at the gym. Besides being a great allrounder addition to any shoe quiver, they’re sure to become your favorite grab-n- go for training days or trad routes. As a climber who typically finds himself on overhanging problems and generally doesn’t choose a slip on style shoe, I’ve been impressed with the Remora’s fit and function. I especially like the secure feel of the heel cup and added rubber for toe hooking. The SynFlex materials and Power Upper used in constructing the Remora just sweeten the deal for this solid multipurpose shoe.
